Compassionate individuals support patients and families during one of life's most emotional and difficult times.
Open Arms Hospice seeks compassionate individuals to support patients and families during end-of-life care — including former hospice family members and anyone with a genuine desire to help during what is an emotional and difficult time.
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support — visiting patients, reading to them, and supporting families. Volunteers do not transport patients or serve as caregivers, though they may sit with a patient as needed.
What to Expect
Prospective volunteers should understand they will encounter patients in the dying process, some of whom may be bedridden or have limited independence. Many volunteers find the work provides as much personal fulfillment as it gives to patients and families.
Eligibility Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Complete a background check (provided at no cost)
- Complete a physical exam and TB testing (provided at no cost)
- Patience and compassion for patients and families in an emotional time
